Paweł Konik – baritone born in Cieszyn (Poland).
He made his debut at the Baltic Opera as Szwochniev in
The Players by Dmitri Shostakovich and Krzysztof Meyer (directed by A. Chyra, conducted by M. Klauz), for which he received the Jan Kiepura Theater Music Award in 2013 in the Best Singer's Debut category.
Since 2018, he has been a soloist with the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
In the 2023/24 artistic season, he made his debut as Oreste in
Elektra by R, Strauss. He performed this role at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Philharmonie Köln and the Staatsoper Stuttgart. On the Staatsoper stage he also took part in a new production of
Women Without a Shadow by R. Strauss as Der Einäugige, he will also return to his excellent roles as Ford in
Falstaff by G. Verdi and Donner in D
as Rheingold by R. Wagner.
The most important roles on the stage of his home theater also include his roles as Herr von Faninal in
Der Rosenkavalier and Harlequin in
Ariadne auf Naxos by R. Strauss, Albert in
Werther by J. Massenet, Sam in
Trouble in Tahiti by L. Bernstein and Andrey Shchelkalov in
Boris by M. Mussorgsky/ S. Nevsky.
Paweł Konik successfully performs the art song repertoire, which has taken him, among others, to: Carnegie Hall in New York, Morse Recital Hall in New Haven, concert halls of Rochester University, Central Connecticut State University, the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and led him to cooperate with the Internationale Hugo-Wolf-Akademie.
A special place in his repertoire is occupied by the works of Raoul Koczalski, whose vocal and instrumental works he restores to the repertoire, developing compositions from preserved manuscripts.
He had the honor of participating in renowned music festivals: Verbier Festival, Brighton Festival, Chopin and his Europe Festival in Warsaw, SaarMusikfestspiele, ECLAT Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart, BridgingArts Festival in Nuremberg, Krzysztof Penderecki's Emanacje Opera Festival and the Opera Nova Festival in Bydgoszcz. He also performed on the stages of De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, Oper Köln, Philharmonie Köln, Forum am Schloss in Ludwigsburg, the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, the Wrocław Opera, the Warsaw Chamber Opera, the Opera na Zamku in Szczecin and the Silesian Opera in Bytom.
He was invited to perform joint concerts by the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, New Music Orchestra, Silesian Philharmonic, Verbier Festival Orchestra, Le Concert d'Anvers, Arte dei Suonatori and Les Talens Lyriques.
Paweł Konik studied at the Yale University School of Music with Doris Yarick-Cross and Richard Cross. He received his master's degree from Eytan Pessen. He also studied under the watchful eye of Izabela Kłosińska and Matthias Rexroth at the Opera Academy at the Teatr Wielki Opera Narodowa in Warsaw and Ewa Biegas and Jan Ballarin at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. He is a doctor of musical arts.
